Philadelphia, PA [May 22, 2020] - American Aerospace Technologies, Inc. (AATI), leader in airborne intelligence for critical infrastructure, announces a contract novation from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to conduct an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) flight demonstration using detect and avoid technologies in the NAS by September of 2020.
The novation comes on the heels of AATIs recent acquisition of the assets of PAE ISR, LLC in December of 2019, including the Resolute Eagle UAS product line. AATI now joins General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. and Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. as one of three selected companies to execute the NASA Systems Integration and Operationalization (SIO) initiative. Through this program, AATI will be demonstrating safe UAS operations while performing an infrastructure inspection flight demonstration at altitudes below 5,000 feet.
NASA and AATIs partnership will address key factors that limit routine UAS operations. Ultimately, the program will pave the way for UAS certification and integration into the National Airspace (NAS). The operations will include detect-and-avoid as well as command-and-control technologies. The outputs will help the industry partners compile the necessary data to build a safety case that supports regulatory compliance for routine UAS NAS operations.
“AATI is pleased to partner with NASA to complete this flight demonstration and to contribute to the development of a type certification process for Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) UAS operating at medium altitudes. America is increasingly managed by artificial intelligence (AI) and served by UAS. BVLOS UAS operating at medium altitudes carrying advanced sensors and AI are expected to transform the way that the nation’s 500,000 miles of midstream pipelines are patrolled, providing a fundamentally new and unique capability that changes the way we manage health, safety and the environment, respond to disasters, optimize operations and leverage human capital. “said David Yoel, AATI CEO.
AATI plans to conduct flight operations in September 2020 in the San Joaquin Valley, California over oil & gas pipeline corridors at altitudes approximately 1,500 feet.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is a U.S. government agency that is responsible for science and technology related to air and space. NASA was founded in October of 1958. The agency was created to oversee U.S. space exploration and aeronautics research.
American Aerospace Technologies, Inc. (AATI) is a real-time remote sensing services company focused on safeguarding critical infrastructure and emergency response. The company has been flying long-endurance unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace since 2010.
